The Upcoming GeForce GTX480 OC Edition to Draw 305W of Power

After the GeForce GTX480 is released on March 26th, there’ll be OC editions coming from some leading manufacturers of graphics cards. According to the information we’ve gathered, the maximum power consumption of GTX480 could reach up to 298W, and we know the 6pin+8pin power connector is just capable of supplying 300W in the best situation.

According to a recent post at Donanimhaber, one of the graphics card makers claim that their GTX480 OC edition will feature 305W of power draw, a 384-bit of memory interface, and 1536MB of GDDR5 memory, but he failed to mention the frequencies and more details. Since the OC edition only brings 7W more power, you’d better not expect significant OC potential from it.

Looks like I’m going to need an exhaust fan on the roof of my house :0 Or maybe I can put the computer on top of the stove in the kitchen?

Crossing the 300W line means the cards arent PCI-e 16x 2.0 certified anymore. So this brings the question: are the OC versions of the GTX480 even allowed in the EU because TüV and RoHS will disqualify these cards because they are not PCIe compliant anymore.

Nevertheless, hopefully this card will rock the GPU world without frying any PSUs or motherboard chipsets XD

No more heating bills in the winter, we’ll just gather the kiddies and roast marshmellows on the PC. Wonder if I can hang a popcorn popper from my hard drive cage.

Illegal hardware you say? I want some NOW

It’s still a good performance per watt ratio.

Shoot I just bought the GTX 260 a year ago dammit!

And I still got to get an intel i5 ….

I cannot believe how much power these cards are pulling. There has got to be a way to start getting the GPU’s more energy efficient.

Next thing we’ll know the standard will be dual 8 pin PCIe connectors on high end cards for a 375 watt power draw.

I laugh at the idiots who wants to buy 3 of these things and stuff them in their computer boxes just for gaming or to show how big their e-peen is.
