GeForce GTX 460 to Arrive in Early June

GeForce GTX 470 PCB board

NVIDIA is now working on a lower-end addition to its GeForce GTX400 series, and according to our reliable sources, the card will be branded as GeForce GTX 460.

The third Fermi-based consumer-class model will employ the P1025 reference PCB design, and feature 1GB of GDDR5 memory as well as 256-bit of memory interface. We have no idea yet about the amount of stream processors or frequencies.

Noteworthily, there won’t be a standard design of GeForce GTX460 – instead, the AICs have their own design rights. If things go well enough, the GeForce GTX 460 will make its debut on June 1st, with a similar price to Radeon HD 5850.

DO NVIDIA support UVD 2 ?

DO NVIDIA support Accelerated video encoding, transcoding, and upscaling ?

DO NVIDIA support Integrated HDMI 1.3 output with Deep Color, xvYCC wide gamut ?

DO NVIDIA support Integrated Integrated HD audio controller ?

DO NVIDIA support Integrated Output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI with no additional cables required ?

DO NVIDIA support AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio formats ?

  2. Hurr Says:

UVD 2 is ATI. PureVideo HD is nVidia.

I hope GTX 460 will be half 480 SP with $200 [-o< and support a new video decoder that is capable of editing 4K video (hi guys this in near half 2010).

  4. Theo Says:

@Hok – From our experience, yes – even GT200b series supports Editing 4K Video using Adobe CS5. Until April 12th, we can’t disclose any more details about the suite.

As far as other questions go, GTX 400 Series supports HDMI 1.4, not HDMI 1.3. Our cards didn’t came with the adapter, so we were forced to use an DVI-to-HDMI cable.

hahahaha 4K? What did you do, strap four cameras together with scotch tape? I don’t think lucas films will consider gtx400 for their computers but you are right that the industry is too slow

So what are we thinking? 384sp? 32 ROPs?)

That would be realistic. A whole GPC fused off. 1/4 of the engine gone, 1/3 of the bus, ROPs, and memory; similar clock to GTX470.

That would certainly put it right around 5850 performance on average, but I highly doubt it’d overtake it in any meaningful way. Still, a competitive part at a competitive price…for now.

Yay! Impending 5850 price cut :) (Although I wonder if ATi was planning that anyway, with GTX480/470 likely available by then and a refresh not-to-far off.)

BTW: Even though it hurts to think of a large chip butchered in such a fashion, this actually should be ‘worthy’ for it’s price tag, as it is some-what still useful in proportion to it’s original market and die size…Unlike the 5830. I hope ATi takes note and never releases something like that again.

Like I said, 5850 for $199.00 Yeah Baby! When can the big brown truck bring me one?

  9. Theo Says:

ILM mostly runs on Dual Opteron 6-Cores and nVidia Quadros, if you’re asking. As far as Fermi-based Quadro goes, expect that to continue dominance in DCC industry. Like it or not, nV holds 91-93% of discrete professional graphics share. Naturally, there is a reason for it.

Bear in mind that when making a purchasing decision, we’re talking about tens of thousands of USD if not millions. I run a smaller studio, but still every investment in equipment is measured heavily. With CS5, I expect that the market share will fortify.

But that is a topic for an in-depth article, expect few coming next week. As far as our 4K video platform goes, I decided to go for RED One camera and will acquire EPIC-X. According to Jim, “5K 2.37:1 is now 120 fps.”

No question what camera wins purchasing decision.

    I was hoping for this:
    GTX 460:320SP,256bit,1500Mhz Shader,$250
    GTS 450:288SP,256bit,1200Mhz Shader,$200

Even with this 5830 should match GTS450
