Test Method and Results

Test Method: use Furmark v1.8.2, let GPU in full-load status; record each GPU’s highest temperature after 10 minutes; detect rear surface temperature of PCB supply circuit by using contact thermometer. Reference cooler are also tested for comparison. The fan speed is set to AUTO for both card. Tuniq TX-2 silicon grease is used.

MSI Afterburner 1.6.0 Beta is used for overclocking test. The ultimate clocks rise to 750/1800/1500MHz(core/memory/shader), which is close to the overclocking scope tested previously.

Testing Environment: the chassis used is Xigmatek midgard which internally has two 12cm golf-fans (1150RPM) responsible for air-out, and a front 12cm golf-fan (1150RPM) responsible for air-in. Tests are conducted inside the closed crate and temperature is kept at around 20℃.

Under default clock state, GTX 470 IChill’s core full load temperature is 66℃ and PCB is 84.3℃; under overclocking state, core full load temperature is 70℃ and PCB is 92.2℃. Fan speed is kept to 40%, rotation speed at around 2100RPM. Noise level is within acceptable limit.

For the reference GTX 470, its core full load temperature is 93℃ and PCB temperature is 78.9℃, while the turbo fan 3500RPM brings loud noises under default state; Furmark generates errors after running in overclocking state for one minute, error remained unsolved after repeated attempts.

No matter under which state, GTX 460 IChill’s core temperature is substantially lower than reference card, and that the PCB temperature is 5.4℃ higher which is within acceptable limit.

    all them fans and metal fins for one GPU? I expect to see something like that on a 5970

    Yeah would be nice seeing that on a 5970. Anyway, is it possible to put these in SLI, because I haven’t seen a SLI-bridge that can bridge a gap of 3 slots. So how would that be possible?

    But damn that thing is huge, nice review too =). Is this by the way the same cooler underneath the hood as the Arctic Cooling version or is it a totally different version? And what kind of cooling paste is being used by Inno3D, their own sticky standard nvidia goo or the MX-3/4?
