Final thoughts

For now only the GeForce GTX 465 with 10 memory chips can be unlocked. The utility that Asus offers is very safe and simple, but it can only unlock the disabled stream processors. If you want to activate the disabled memory and memory controllers as well, you’ll need to flash the BIOS, which is more difficult and risky.

I guess nobody would say no to the performance improvements generated by simple alteration free of charge. With stream processors unlocked, you’ll get 13% performance improvements; with the memory unlocked, you’ll get 25% performance improvements.

Undoubtedly the unlockable GTX 465 would be more popular with consumers. We’ve found some unlockable GTX 465 from many manufacturers including Zotac, Galaxy, Unika, Asus and Colorful.

Please do backup your data before the unlock, and know that this upgrade can be risky. Wish you best luck guys!

    Did you check any eVGA versions? Or how about PNY?

    I would very much like to see a list of which GTX 465 unlocked and which ones didn’t.

    It would be great to see something like this work with the new 460/GF104 and its “locked” parts. No memory to unlock, just one SM! Being that the 460 already beats the 465 in most cases, and when you OC, it comes close to and can beat the 470. This could be an even LESS expensive way to get the performance.

    What does it mean if when i enter the line nvflash -4 -5 -6 EXP470.rom it says there are two display adapters and then it says No matches found?

    Ryan, try this…

    1. Type in NVflash –eraseeeprom
    Let it do its thing, wait for confirmation that it finished

    2. Type in NVflash –list
    This will make it identify the cards

    3. NVflash –index 0 -4 -5 -6 EXP470.ROM

    That will work.
