More Benchmarking Results of 512SP GTX 480 Exposed

Earlier this week we previewed the performance of 512SP GeForce GTX 480. Expreview has grabbed some additional benchmarks on it, in which you can see how it performs against the ordinary GTX 480.

The drivers used were Forceware 258.96. The screenshot indicates that this card features 512 CUDA cores and default clocks.

Under the Extreme mode with 3DMark Vantage, 512SP GTX 480 got a GPU score of 10072 while the 480SP version scored at 9521, showing a slight performance difference.

According to the Feature Test 1, 512SP delivers better texture fill performance of 41.55 GTEXELS/S, compared to 38.82 GTEXELS/S on the 480SP-equipped model.

Under the enthusiast mode with Crysis Warhead (1920×1200, 8xAA on), the 512SP GTX 480 runs at 34.72fps, while the 480SP model at 32.96fps.

Why the percentase increase of the benchmark not linier as the percentase increase of the SP? I mean the percentase increase of the benchmark is lower than the percentase increase of the SP.

Oh I am forgot, please please please include benchmark of application that support CUDA, not just game. Today we also buy GPU to speed up the application that support GPGPU. Thank you.

Why the test is made on DX 10? and not DX 11, 400 and 5000 series are useless on dx 10

  4. Jon Says:

Maybe because they’re not done testing yet?

  5. SirCanealot Says:

    Maybe because Crysis doesn’t support DX11? 0_o

Hok , what cuda applications ? i don’t care for folding and benchmarks , i know of adobe premiere pro supporting cuda but it can only accelerate editing and not encoding , it’s already real time editing with a little GTX285 so what can a GTX480 can do more than real time ? more timelines ? it’s locked only for quadro cards.
Conclusion , test what a video card is essentially for.

  7. Hi Mom Says:

480 to 512 shaders is what, a 6.6% increase. Even IF performance went up in a linear fashion, that’s still next to nothing. If you have a game that’s slow, say at 30fps, you make it to about 31.5 to 32fps. Big whoop, and that’s best case where other limitations don’t come into play.

  8. Hok Says:

@Some Guy, how about Badaboom, TMPEG Enc, etc that use CUDA? I wonder why Adobe only support Geforce GTX 285 now, why the don’t update to Geforce GTX 4xx.
    @Hi Mom, Yup.

Well, the number of cores is not the only thing that affects the performance of a video game. The GPU memory bandwidth is also a determinant factor, as well as the CPU.. That’s why when you change a single parameter of your hardware configuration, the response is never linear; but rather logaritmic, depending where the bottleneck of the application is…

  12. BdingDwong Says:

Rethink your statement irkantska; the resultant increase of performance from changing only the video card should be linear and it is. The only way for it to be logarithmic is if the video card was upgraded from an ancient video card such as an old geforce mx4000 et.al. Linear performance is measured in equal steps, like from 1% to 2% or 3% to 4%, whereas logarithmic performance is measured exponentially like 10%, 100%, 1000%. Logarithms are exponents.

This card will cause a blackout for several city blocks hahahahaha. Man, the people put up with the GTX 480, running the fan at an ear piercing 100%, buy a watercooling block/system, upgrade to a 1000+ watt power supply.

Some of them even run SLIs and do 24 hour Folding@Home! Donating blood does more to society than watching a protein molecule evolve on-screen. Do these people even know what they are doing?

  14. Got no choice Says:

@ Some Guy. You can add the GTX cards to the config file for Adobe Premier to get CUDA acceleration for video editing on gaming cards. A guy on youtube sorted that out, just like doing Cvars mod in Crysis.

As for me I’m one of those people who are never in a position to hold off and wait.
Since my 5770 crapped out in a stupid way that voids warranty I have to buy a new card. I thought about GTX460, then thought “one more week and I can have a GTX470″ Then I thought if I wait 2 more weeks I can get a GTX480. And it’s the usual for me, buy a card then 3 weeks later a better one comes in. I just accept the fact that unless I get loaded up with cash real soon, I’ll never get exactly what I want. That’s life.
