Introduction——iSSD

The existing SSD size is actually much smaller than that of traditional hard drive,in order to give consideration to the speed and size,the SSD with SATA port is changed to feature mSATA,which is called iSSD(integrated solid state drive).

As we can see the first picture,it’s the Intel’s iSSD specially customized for In tel 311 series,whose capacity is only 20GB.In addition,it can be installed in mSATA motherboard directly and supposed to integrate mobo perfectly.

Currently several motherboard manufacturers has introduced mSATA-based mobos,mostly focusing on Z68 series.They target at Smart Response in Z68,allowing you to use a SSD as a cache between the hard drive and memory,providing a SSD-like system performance while having maximum storage capacity from the hard drives(single or RAID).

In terms of Z68 series,Gigabyte altogether rolls out 20 model,five support mSATA port,while Z68XP-UD3-iSSD is bundled with Intel 311 series iSSD 20GB.
