Last week we reported that AMD was working on something powerful for the server-class market, Naples, which is featuring 32 cores and 64 threads. Are you curious what its successor would be like? One of Fudzilla’s latest articles would give you a better idea.
The company is going to 7nm manufacturing process right after the 14nm FinFET technology – the new chip will be codenamed Starship, and expected to ship with 48 cores and 96 threads in the year of 2018, if all goes well. The TDP of Starship will vary between 35W and 180W.
It would be impressive for AMD to skip the 10nm and go to 7nm directly. If AMD does make it on time, it means that GlobalFoundries should be ready to launch its 7nm at that time.
