As one of the world’s leading OLED panel providers, Samsung has gradually abandoned the production line of its LCD panels in the past years, so they have had to source them from Sharp. However, Sharp has reportedly decided to stop supplying LCD panels to the South Korea company starting next year.
Sharp had been supplying up to 5 million TV panels which account for 10 percent of Samsung’s total TV production. According to Korean mieda, Sharp notified Samsung last week that it would stop supplying LCD panels, and Samsung’s Future Strategy Office has had to held an urgent meeting and decide to turn to LG Display.
Both companies used to have a good relationship, and we assume that the reason for this move is Foxconn hopes Sharp to turn around and increase its TV shipment next year. Let’s wait and see how the talk between Samsung and LG would turn out.
