Samsung SDI has just announced its new high-energy density battery cell at the North American Auto Show (NAIAS) 2017, which will support a driving range of up to 600km.
The biggest highlight of the battery is it can fast charge EVs in 20 minutes and reach 80% of the battery capacity, which means only 20 minutes in the highway rest area will be enough for an ordinary trip. Sounds thrilling enough?
Additionally, Samsung SDI presented an integrated battery module which packs more than 24 cells with a higher capacity of 6-8kWh, while a traditional EV battery module only consists of 12 cells and has a capacity of 2-3kWh.
The company notes that mass production of the battery cell won’t kick off until the year of 2021.
