TSMC has already started mass production of its 16nm FinFET Plus process, and will even take one step ahead of Intel regarding the next-generation 10nm process technology. However, it’s painful for them that Qualcomm has turned to Samsung for 14nm and also for its upcoming 10nm.
Luckily, TSMC has won some other big clients – MediaTek, HiSilicon Technologies and Spreadtrum Communications have decided to fabricate their next-generation smartphone APs using TSMC’s 16/10 nm processing nodes, according to a recent post at Digitimes.
Since Samsung has no plan of manufacturing its next-gen chips by using TSMC’s 10nm technology, TSMC’s initial clients of its 10nm process will mostly include Apple, MediaTek, HiSilicon and Spreadtrum, the sources indicated.
