Last month Gigabyte announced the global GPU overclocking competition – Beat Me If You Dare to invite overclockers all over the world to challenge Gigabyte’s GPU record of 15297. The contest didn’t give hardware limitation, which means the contestants are allowed to use any brand of GeForce GTX260 graphics card.
Team China, a well-known overclocking team has just broken the record with Zotac’s 15-phase GTX260 Extreme by overclocking it to 1100/2400/2600MHz (Core/Shader/Memory), and hitting a whopping 3DMark Vantage score of P17845.

There’s always a demand for overclock, not only the elite overclocking community but also mobo vendors want Intel to change the plan, not limiting Core i7’s OCbility any more.
So Intel changed ideas recently, going to unlock memory ratios adjustments on Core i7 940 and 920. Before September Intel want this feature only exist in Core i7-965 XE.

In nowadays, NVIDIA and ATI seem facing the same problem as what CPU industry faced 4 years ago: Too many transistors in a single core, huge power consumption and high temperature. For example, a Intel Wolfdale CPU has 0.41 billion transistors and features 65W TDP, while a NVIDIA GTX200 has 1.5 billion transistors and features 170W TDP. Even the smaller one, a AMD RV770 also has 0.956 billion transistors and features 160W TDP. In terms of number, GPU can easily beat CPU.
